In football, a trophy is the dream of any club and country. However, in addition to glory, the largest competitions nowadays are marked by huge financial prizes, as well as iconic hardware, such as invaluable trophies laden with history, and prize money capable of changing the fortunes of a club.

Financial Rewards

This is not just a game of winning silverware, but also a business. The wealthiest competitions offer mind-blowing prize money that can be used to finance transfers, facilities, and youth development.

  1. Premier League - The English Premier League is the most commercially dominant domestic league in the world, which allows the winner to secure up to EUR220 million in prize money, both in TV and performance shares.
  2. UEFA Champions League - This is the biggest club competition in Europe, featuring an enormous pool of talent. Through match progress and market revenues, winners can win as much as EUR148.5 million.
  3.  La Liga and Bundesliga - The champions of La Liga in Spain can earn approximately EUR180 million, and the top football players of the Bundesliga in Germany can earn approximately EUR107 million.
  4.  FIFA Club World Cup (2025)  - The expanded global club event had a EUR855 million prize pool, with winners taking home around EUR100 million+ package, inclusive of bonuses.
  5. FIFA World Cup  - In the case of a national team, the World Cup prize money was fixed at 727 million dollars, with the winners receiving an estimated 50 million dollars
  6. Africa Cup of Nations - Continental success also brings money; winners of recent editions earned $4.5 million.

Apart from the champions. Runners-up and teams that make appearances at later stages can make high incomes. Making deeper runs is financially significant even without lifting the trophy.

Trophy Value

Not all value is measured in money. Some trophies are artworks and symbols of heritage:

  1. FIFA World Cup trophy - This is made of 18-carat gold and its history is quite interesting as well, and most people refer to it as the most valuable physical trophy in football, and its material value is estimated to be 20 million dollars.
  2. Copa Libertadores Trophy - The father of all jewels in South America is priced at approximately $8.5 million.
  3. UEFA Europa League /FA Cup Trophies - To this day, these European and domestic cup trophies remain iconic, valued at several million in material and symbolic terms.

Trophies possessing lesser material value, such as league championship hardware, bear enormous prestige that is associated with sporting achievement, history, and fan obsession.
